My son's truck the 1995 Flare Side needs a fuel tank (only has the rear tank) so I'm going to replace it with the 38 gallon tank (like I did in my 97 diesel). I was thinking since the truck is getting close to 175-180K miles on what I believe to be the original in tank fuel pump that I should replace it as well. Since I'm going to replace the pump should I go internal (stock type & performance) or go with an external pump on the frame rail? If I go external should I go stock or modified performance pump? Advantages and disadvantages to each set up? All opinions and experiences appreciated. Truck has no mods YET, & I don't really know where we are going with it yet. Might just be a nice driver, don't see it off roading or mudding, or drag racing on any regular basis (bed too fragile).

 

I'd go with the stock pump if you can fit it they work well and you'll know for sure what to replace it with next time

where are you getting the tank from I wanted to do the same thing

 

There is no external pump on your truck so I'd suggest you replace the intank pump with an OEM Motorcraft pump.
