Mercury Custom cab Unibody

My dad and I winched this old beast out of the tall grass today at a neighbours place. Rusted as heck and hasn't run in 20 plus years. Other than the tailgate its pretty much all there. I didn't get any pictures of inside or under the hood, but it looks like the same 223 in my 64 f100. Big rear window with a nice piece of chrome underneath as well as funky hood ornamentation..

I was not aware the door body line is straight on the unibody, as opposed to the little dog leg on the other slicks The fenders appear to be interchangeable, is this the case? What other parts beside the actual cab/bed are specific to the uni?

Hood ornament is from a Chrysler, circa 1953-1956. M on the hood is from a 1956 Mercury car.

I know that you know your stuff regarding Fords number dummy, but the M on the truck is bigger than the ones on the 56 Mercury cars. I think the M on the Mercury trucks was only from 61-63. Doug.

Ya, the bird is as ND said 55 Chrysler part #159985 8 D G all over ebay. I had no doubt it was added by a previous owner. I could only find these two different Merc car "M" emblems:

The one on the truck is different, the top and bottom of the M go further up and further down, and the inside is grooved. Muppy, I think you are correct that this M is original to the truck, as after searching out mercury unibodies came up with a couple, like this 63..

Yup, the Big M's came on the '61-'63 Merc trucks, there is almost always at least one f/s on kijiji.
AND, I went out to the garage and had a look at the (really rough) one I have, and the number cast into the back is as follows: CDCITB 16637-B

The Big M is very close to 28 inches across

**Sorry about pic orientation, I dumped them straight from my phone.....
