'67 FORD T-98 VS. 435 4-speed Tranny....
#18
I have a 69 ford with either a t18 or a t98 but I don't know which, the casting on top says t98-148-c and the casting on the side says the same and the pto port is on the passenger side of the tranny. Can anyone tell me what it is cause I'm going to rebuild it and I want to get the right kit for it.

'67 Ford T-98
T-18: Reverse is up-towards the dash, shift lever retainer cap (8MTH-7220) threads off/on. Warranty Plate TRANS code: F
NP435: Reverse is down-towards the seat, shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) has two notches and is spring loaded, retained to tower by two pins. Warranty Plate TRANS code: A
OP has a 1967 F100, y'all see any T-98's listed?

Early T 18s used the T 98 cover. Not sure if the change to reverse being "right and up" vs. "right and down" has anything to do with that change.

The reverse up or down had nothing to do with the change. Just the two companies (n.p. and warner gear) doing their gear shifts different. Just as NumberDummy pointed out, in the past whenever I had a customer needing a tranny part and I needed to know which of these two trannys they had, I always asked them is reverse up or down.

Don't believe websites when they state when-Ford did-what.
I've found lots of mistakes when it comes to my pickup. :/
Bill's dates are good, the others tend to be repeated mistakes mostly. :/
Special ordered my '75 F150 in late Nov of '74 and yes there's no doubt
it's a T18 and reverse is right and back toward the seat.
A three year earlier Bump Side company truck had a 300i6 and reverse
was forward on it. ...what all happened in between I don't know. LOL :)
-----------------
Recently using a dial indicator with magnetic base, found my -original-
bell housing is crooked! It always was! The dangged thing had a bad
clutch in it at 000,014.1 miles but being young and dumb didn't know
it was going to be a 38 year problem for me! LOL :)
Couldn't keep an oil-lite-type pilot bearing in it for anything! :(
Swapped in a 6303 sealed ball bearing and it put a Band-Aid on the
problem but didn't fix the jittery clutch, it's always had.
Check them bell housings! :)
