Question What gear for the A4LD Tranny

1985 4x4 BII with Overdrive. A4LD. Trying to replace the front seal that had blown out. Is there a gear that it needs to be in when we put the tranny back in to keep it from leaking?

That is a common prob with the a4ld. The parts that are updated to correct this problem is crank to flywheel pilot bushing, front seal, bellhousing, trans oil pump, and pump bushing. You should get a shop to repair due to a special alignment tool needed to align it correctly.
