Arrow Towing Heavy with the 6.2

*** Weight Police - please skip this thread ***

Curious who is towing 15k or more with the 6.2.
What gearing are you running, any mods, how does the truck do?
I realize that these are not diesels and will suffer in the high elevations and steep hills.
Let's hear your stories please..

I have a '14 F-350 SRW with the 6.2L. I pull 15K+ loads on occasion, it does well. I specially ordered my truck with the 4.30 gears, and my truck is all stock.

You better have the 4.30 gears if you're intending to do this.

I second this.

my truck, 800 pound motorcycle, trailer and stuff is a total of 17,000 pounds (scaled)... with 3:73, it does OK,, but hills is Second gear and 50mph.

so your 15k trailer, and a 7k truck, you, others, fuel, stuff.. could equal 22,000 total or more.

We have a 2013 F350 DRW SC 2x4 6.2 with 4.30 gears that pulls our 16K 5th wheel. Towing when averaging over a long tow it will get 8 to 9. The low end is when we are running 2 lane and the high end is all interstate. With everything full including the 50 gal aux tank we scale at 24.4K.

We have pulled this trailer over high mountain passes the highest being 11,300 ft (Wolf Creek Pass) and just like any motor it will slow down (even diesels) but with the 6 speed and the ability wind it up it did just fine but in lower gears, if I remember it was in low doing 25 mph at the top, it would have gone faster but I didn't want to push it. On flat roads it will pull 6th most of the time with downshifts to 5 and sometimes 4th on overpasses in cruise, if I don't use the cruise it will hold 6th by letting the speed drop. Off the line this motor is very impressive pulling a load and down right scary when empty with the 4.30 gears. Cruising down the road at 65 it runs around 2K rpm and you can't here it running but if you jump on it then it sounds like a old fashion muscle car .

Coming from a 2V V10 with 4.30 gears it took a little getting used to but after the first hard pull I was sold. The dive by wire was the hardest thing to get used to.

well, according to the Ford site the 6.2 SRW with 4.30's max GCWR is 28,700 pounds so no need for the
"Weight Police" to turn a blind eye. I wonder how long they're gonna keep that on their website? It's sort of misleading.

12,000 lbs.loaded trailer weight with signature rig...3.73..does the job...4.30 would be better. Got over 7000 towing miles behind the Ford now.

The biggest problem I have with the 3.73 being that i have a high profile trailer, with a headwind going 65 mph down the interstate, 5th is too tall and 4th is too low of a gear. I'm talking about winds over 10-15 mph on the nose.

We just pulled into a stiff headwind in the Texas Hill Country with no problems with 4.30 gears.

I saw that and think it is a misprint... look at the DRW rating just below the SRW... 5200# less????

It's on my wish list...but I'm right in the middle of my Titan Disc Brake upgrade with some Timken Bearings and putting two Trojan T105's in a new box.

Stopping has never been good with the trailer...so I thought that was a better investment at this time

I tow a 25' goose neck with 12k excavator, so trailer and load is around 15K, I would not win any speed awards going up hills but I have no concerns. Pulls about as good as my 6.0 did but with worst mileage. With 3.73 gears, it does like to run what feels like an uncomfortably high RPM.

I just bought Timken bearings for my truck but can't find any real info on late models on if there is a torque spec or if it is done by feel. Have you found anything?

How does a SRW F350 6.2L 4X4 is rated pretty much the same as the DRW 6.2L 4X4?

If you are talking about 2wd fronts just torque to 20 ft lbs and back off and torque to 18 in lbs. I just packed mine and tightened the nut and spun the the rotor then backed the nut off, I don't have a in-lb torque wrench so I tighten by hand and feel , basically no play after the key is installed. I have no idea how you could torque to 18 in-lbs with a socket that big.
