I see the same. Nobody seems to care. But if you get into an accident it will be a big factor.

I know the weights of all of my stuff and with different setups. I live in farm country and there are seven scales within thirty miles, not counting the quarries. Two of those seven are official CAT for pay. The rest are at elevators or loading docks, but free to use and left on 24/7.

A F350 srw 6.7 is rated to tow over 20,000lbs, the only real difference between that truck and mine is the engine and transmission. If I can get up to speed in a reasonable fashion and maintain a reasonable speed there is no reason I can't tow as much as the diesel. Maybe my engine and transmission aren't up to that job, I think they are, but from a safety standpoint everything else on my truck can tow the weight just fine.

The biggest factor is don't speed.
Takes a lot longer to stop with 20k or 30k in tow, doesn't matter what you are towing it with.
When that kid chasing a ball out onto the street is suddenly in front of you, how fast can you stop is what matters...not that someone else can do 3 mph faster up a hill than you can.

My 6.2 2013 F350 DRW has the same running gear as a 6.7 that's rated way higher for tow ratings and I can tell you right up front that the tuck alone has a hard time stopping our 16K trailer without good operating trailer brakes. When we ordered our present trailer I upgraded to Dexter 3 3/8 x 12 1/4 HD brakes and after they started failing from age and miles I installed 13" Kodiak disk brakes and I can stop just as fast with the trailer if not faster with the truck alone. Ive always been a little **** about brakes on both truck and trailer.
