1951 F2 engine swap

I just received the bad news... 7 cracks in my flathead... the machine shop says they are all repairable, but I'm thinking the cost to repair them plus everything else kind of puts it out of my budget.

So...

I have a good running, stoutly built 302 with around 1000 miles on it, and an AOD with around 50 miles on it that I pulled out of my '64 Fairlane back in the spring...

I'm considering swapping in the 302/AOD, hopefully without making any permanent changes to the frame or body, so that I can always return the truck to its stock configuration in the future if I decide that I want to.

Is this a realistic goal?

Also, is there a recommended bolt in engine mount/crossmember that is recommended?

I am planning to use a stock F1 front axle (thanks, Firstrider) with a disc brake conversion and a 9 inch rear ffom a '66 f100.

Any other advise?

Thanks -Bear

It can be done fairly easy. Chassis Engineering makes a bolt in engine mount and others make a bolt in tube mount for the small block ford. I have the one from Chassis Engineering that I mounted in my 49F1 that I took out that I will not be using to use the tube type because I needed to move the motor over to make room for the Toyota Power Steering Box. I am sure this type can be used in the F2 Truck

Is the shop that found the cracks familiar with flatheads? Many cracks are benign, only ones that are around valves, on the pan rail, or into cylinders are usually a concern. The ones between cooling holesand head bolt holes on the deck are not an issue in most cases.

He didnt say where all of them were... but did say there were some around the valve seats. We knew already that there were cracks around the head bolt holes and that we wouldnt worry about them. This guy is familiar with flatheads... or claims to be.

Silver... here are the pics....

Your truck is a very nice original rig: why alter it? Were it mine I'd find another flathead. They're real jewels. I understand your $$ concern tho.
