Yes, it's a known issue and because it happened to me, Monty had a spare with him when his blew. The 17's have a redesigned pipe but the plastic end that is usually what fails is identical on the 17's. Read to the end of my thread I linked and you'll see the 2017 pipe.

Monty, great writeup and great pics. Thanks to all you guys posting up more information on different brands. Although my truck is still new, 6200 miles, I think I want to do it early and get it done.

Taking a road trip to Kentucky in August. Although I probably wouldn't have an issue, low miles and no trailer, I rather be safe than sorry. Putting it on the shopping list. Thanks, Guys.

For a different option, I installed the AFE. It performed just fine on my recent 3,000 mile trip through Canada pulliing an 11,000 trailer with the truck loaded too. For a few pics, I posted on #30 in the linked thread, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ng-trip-2.html.

Thanks again to you guys who alerted me to the potential problem. Changing out the stock pipe gave me some piece of mind on this trip especially as I think back to the engine heat cycling and the boost I needed pulling the many steep hills.

Wow, finally something to fix. Haven't been on here much the past couple years. Nothing ever breaks on this truck. Drove it off the lot and haven't been back. Anyway, I gather the CAC tubes blow off on a regular basis. Guess I'll get a kit and install it before my summer trip. What else have I missed??

The cac tube is plastic and it breaks. I bought a spare and just keep it in the truck along with the extra fuel filters.

Not so much blows off as blows up.

Yeah, I blew one off on my 7.3L two trucks ago. Scared my mule I tell ya. Thanks for the reply. I'll do something. Probably just throw a spare in the RV. Not likely to blow when not towing. I drive like an old man. Oh wait, I am an old man.

I was sent a PM by one of the guys asking about the relocation of the reservoir for the power steering. All in all, I guess my concern about the location was for nothing. It hasn't moved in 5k hard towing miles. From what I've heard and read, H&S may have another bend in their tubes now so that it doesn't have to be moved. Either way, I'm glad it's done and I don't have to worry about it doing that again.

Monty,
Well my CAC finally blew yesterday. I knew exactly what it was when it happened.

Are you still happy with your H&S setup?

Man I just looked inside of my exploded tube and it is covered with a black oily soot.

Where would the soot come from? Is it normal?
Anyone ever clean their intercooler? don't know if it is in there too but chances are with the tube that nasty.....

I like the Rudy's CAC I bought. I got it off eBay for 150 shipped. I did a write up on it. Search for Rudy's Cold Air install.
