Please, when asking questions, list ALL the pertinent information.

What year is it, what series? What is the engine size and transmission type?

The Ford AXLE ID tag is located under two of the bolts that retain the inspection cover to the housing.

It would be very helpful if you could post a pic of it, or type the info that's stamped on it, but by now...it may be missing.

Ford truck parts catalog doesn't list the spline count.

The only way I can give you the Ford part number is with the info stamped on the ID tag.

Generic pic from 1980/89 truck catalog:

Hmm, I wonder that little triangle means when it says "from 8-82". Do you reckon that is why you can't find the right part, you have a early 82 model?

Wouldn't be the first time that a production date came into play....food for thought.

That's a VERY good possibility here!

You have to find that downward-pointing triangle in the diagram to match up with the textual explanation down at the bottom. And that down-triangle is up in the top-left corner and is specifically pointing at the front drive axle.

OP: What is your production date? This will be on the Certification Label on the driver's side door jamb.

There's more than one, so I would appreciate the numbers that are stamped on the AXLE ID tag.

After 1972, looking up 4WD parts in the parts catalogs is a real b!tch...without the AXLE ID number.

If the tag is missing (as usual), be prepared to answer a gazillion questions!

Here's a pic (look towards the bottom of the page) of the 1982 F250 4WD front driving axle applications. Look at all the crap I need to know to get the correct parts list.
