Holley 4150 choke high idle question when warm

I bought a new Holley 600 CFM 4150 with electric choke for my 79 ford F 250 with 400 engine. If I start the truck cold the choke works as it should and after driving 10 or so minutes it runs fine off choke. When I restart the truck after stopping for gas or food it goes back on high idle even with the engine temp at 180 degrees. Should it go on high idle even on a hot day fully warmed up every time i start it? I don't remember my last 600 doing it. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

My truck does exactly the same thing.

The bi-metal strip inside the choke cap starts to cool as soon as the engine is switched off thus contracting and putting the choke back to "hi idle".

There are different ways I have seen Ford counter this. Some engines had a heater hose go up to a clamp on the bottom of the choke cap keeping the cap assembly warm at shutdown. I have also seen some engines where a small metal tube connected the cap and an exhaust source drew in via a vacuum. This warmed up the entire cap assembly.

Also, most intake manifolds have a heat crossover runner built in them that allows warm coolant to flow and heat up the entire manifold. This helped keep things warm.

Now on my engine, I closed off the crossover on the Edelbrock RPM manifold and I have no heater hose to a clamp, or small metal pipe to a vac source so,.... the choke cap bi-metal strip cools QUICKLY.

It's just a small pain in the butt ,... I choose to live with.

Choke could just be set too tight, Back it off a little and see if that helps. It should.
