I am currently having my 223 rebuilt for my 60 F350. When pulling the motor, noticed that it looked like some oil had leaked from the transmission. Figured that the oil seal on the input shaft should be replaced so went through removing the bearing retainer, etc but cannot remove the input shaft bearing to get to the oil seal.

Am I going about this the right way?

There is no oil seal on the input shaft just an Oil Slinger on the back side of the bearing. Oil should never come out the front of the input shaft unless the trans is over filled or it is tipped forward.
