How easy (or hard) is it to kill your power steering?

Just wondering I've scolded myself a few times while backing and maneuvering for turning the wheel all the way to the end and quickly got off it before I blew something up.
A couple other things: is it still bad to try to pull a load in reverse like helping somebody out of a ditch? I thought I read somewhere that reverse is kinda weak but idk people back some heavy stuff in all the time so.....
Then are do our coil spring front ends have tighter turning radius than the earlier front leaf spring trucks?

1. It's not easy to kill your power steering. But no don't hold it against the stops all the way.
2. Reverse is plenty strong.
3. Yes the new axles turn noticeably tighter then the old leaf spring mounted axles.
