Scored an F100!

Cruising the interwebs, looking for nothing in particular, just browsing as I get some ideas and good pics for reference. I found an ad for a FREE 71 F-100...Wait, what did I read that right? Yep. Sans motor/trans/hood and most interior parts, but a solid looking 71 F-100 and for a change I was the first to respond. I called the guy today and made arrangements to haul the new find home on Monday. It looks pretty straight so I will either have a great parts truck, or once the back heals up, I may take a run at making this thing into a shortbed from a longbed. The owner said there is a bunch of parts also laying in the bed (passenger side was replaced and has the Camper Special toolbox in the front lower corner) and the guy he bought it from had converted it to disc brakes with a recently rebuilt rear end. Now I cant wait for Monday to get here! Pics will follow as soon as I get it home.

But the good didn't end there. Drove past the front of the local charity discount type store today. Sitting in the shopping cart were four wheels and I was pretty sure I saw an 8 lug pattern. Right turn Clyde! Hooked in the lot and it was four later model 16x7 argent 8 lugs wheels with a Ford stamp on them as well as four B+ condition trim rings and four of the 71 dog dish style caps. Sticker on the cart said $50 so I had to take those with me. They just unlocked the doors as I walked up and the manager said you better hurry because there was some 16 year old kid taking pics of them as he put them out front. Needless to say my 16 year old kid took priority of that one so the boy now has the wheels/rings/caps we wanted. Time to blast theses and then off to the powdercoater!

Yeti, this is about the only thing in a long while I got lucky with. Talked to him a bit ago to confirm the pick up time and said he may have some extra parts to throw in with the truck

HIO here are the wheels. Kind of felt bad getting them so cheap, but I know what they cost at the local salvage yard plus 4 good rings and almost perfect hubcaps. I couldn't pass the deal up. Going to get them powdercoated a Bahama or Hawaiin Blue to help set off the blue interior.

Anyone out there have any clue on identifying the wheels and what they came off of? They are marked Ford / 0314 over an 84 / what looks like an F inside of a shield. I figure even if the wheels end up not working out, the hubcaps and rings were worth the $50. The wheels have been repainted several times and they have a bright silver base paint you can see between the beads.

I would guess Firestone made them on 3/14/1984. Yes, Firestone made wheels. Any Ford engineering numbers by chance?

JEFFFAFA, great info! Wow I had no idea. I had thought that looked like a Firestone logo, but I didn't want to sound like I was that much of newbie. And just to show how new, here would I locate those numbers at? Going to go run out and look at them now and see what I can find.

I don't remember anymore where they were stamped on steel wheels. But see if you can find some. If Firestone made them for Ford there should be some there. If they made them for the aftermarket world then there won't be any.

Truck just arrived home on the trailer. Low and behold, my ebay score arrived to! 1971 Ford Truck shop manuals (preliminary and 1 through 5), How To Rebuild Big-Block Ford Engines as well as the Ford Truck Diagnosis Manual (with all updates through 1971), and the seller refunded $5.00 that he was able to save me in shipping!

So, overall I would give it a C-. But, nearly perfect set of FoMoCo genuine mirrors, one good fender, two solid doors and a tool box for the Camper Specials. The inner fenders, hood hinges and supports as well as the radiator support are solid. Tailgate is a B+ with a good and intact trim on it! It supposedly had upgraded discs added to it years ago, but I am not sure. They are discs though. It also has a Ford 9" rear end. Think I should save this for a potential future project though.

The floors are solid and shiny green, but the drip rails are starting to rust through unfortunately. I had thought of keeping it and chopping the frame to make me a shortbed, but I think the cab is too far gone up top along the rails to salvage. So, I think it is time to salvage the parts I think I can use or maybe sell to fund my projects and then pick-n-pull the rest.

If any of you are in the Sacramento CA area and may want some parts PM and let me know.

Good info, I will check the wheels closer to see what I can find. Going to have to scrape a few layers of paint first!

I didn't realize the tool box on the sides was an option across the spectrum. I had been told Camper Specials only.
