Do you need the obd ii plug to match the software you put on your computer or smart phone?

Few of the little blue ones work - most are clones. Read the fine print to make sure it will read J1850 PWM protocol. BAFX and OBDLink MX and LX work for sure. The LX and MX have added features - like power-down when the key is off, and a faster sampling rate.

...and don't go above version 1.7 on the blue ones. There are still lots of 1.7's out there, but some carry the 2.x, which I've NEVER had any of them work.

So how does that conversation go? "Hey bud, I have this blue turd that I no longer want in my possession - here yuh go."

It's like visiting my mom's house "Oh good, you're here. I have so much stuff that is crowding my house that it's to the point where I have to walk outside to stretch my imagination. You are more than welcome to enrich your life with a truckload of my old crap."

 

Haha. Actually I have never had a problem with one of the adapters. I leave them plugged in all the time. It's only an incompatible chipset in the later chips - for our older trucks.

I set their phones up with Torque Pro, configure the pids for display and for logging. Not everyone carries rotten fruit in their pocket.

Edit: Ahhh.....reading comprehension 101 No, I don't give out the BAD adapters, I buy GOOD ones as appreciation gifts! Haha. On an unrelated note, do you have any idea how small the text is on my phone? LOL.

Besides, if I DID give out the junk ones, I'd tell them, "Hey, there's this guy who calls himself Tugly. Go bug him about it." LOL
