Revisiting "Easy Rear Seat Removal For 2004 – 2008 F-150" (Looking for Keyless Entry Reset Code)

I've been trying to figure out the "easy" way to remove the rear seat of my 2006 F150 Lariat. I've viewed a couple of videos that show how to use a long screwdriver (as one step in the procedure) to release the tabs that hold the back of the seat in place. I tried this with no luck on the seats of my truck and became a bit fearful of damaging the seat back after a while.

I also ran across this article on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums in which the writer explains that he used his hands to just reach behind the seats to depress the seat back latch:

Easy Rear Seat Removal For 2004 – 2008 F-150

...but I see that the original photos that accompanied the article are no longer viewable. The article is still there...but no photos that I can see. Of course, it's an article from 2006, so in some ways it's not surprising that the photos are no longer properly linked. I saw a link to it as recently as 2011, so it was likely still good up until then, anyway (guessing).

I was wondering if that article (with missing photos) might be visible elsewhere. I'd just like to see some of the visuals associated with the original article.

Any ideas?

Thanks...!

Thanks...but actually, the procedure I referenced in the first post talks about a way of avoiding the screwdriver method by somehow reaching in and depressing the catch by hand. I was curious to see how that looked and how the writer of the procedure managed to do that (thus, my curiosity about the missing pics in the procedure linked in the first post).

Looks like the original writer of that procedure was Travis O'Brien, username IPACA9.

I was able to reach in from the side of the seat and feel around for the latch. Once you get one side done the other is easy. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Yeah, I tried that with the seat in a partially raised position so that I could get my hand in at an angle. I couldn't reach far enough up to get my fingertips to release the catch, although I might have been able to if I had worked a bit harder at it. I had my 14-year-old daughter (my mechanic, pictured below) reach into the same spot and she was able to feel all the plastic parts of the catch but could not exert enough pressure to release the catch (the awkward angle, I think).

In any case, using a combination of the "reach in" method and the screwdriver method, we were finally able to get the two catches to release. The passenger-side catch was relatively easy. The driver's side catch was a bear...very difficult to get to release for some reason -- but we final got it.

My purpose for going through this was to recover the factory reset code for the keyless entry pad on the driver's door. The previous owner had no clue what the code was and he had driven the truck for something like 9 years. Owner number 1 had driven the truck for a year and he probably lost or hid the card that was supposed to be in the owner's packet with the vehicle manual, etc. Owner 2 had never bothered going back to Ford (paying them) to recover the code and didn't know about removing the rear seat back to find it (or if he tried he was unsuccessful).

So, we were able to recover the keyless entry reset code and got the keypad reprogrammed. First time it had been used since the first year of this truck's life, I imagine.

canstacker, out of curiosity -- when you got your hand/arm in from the side of the seat, did you first lift the bottom of the seat part way to make room for your arm? That is, did you tilt the seat bottom upwards first?

Our truck is the 2006 Lariat SuperCrew and it sure seemed like there was very little room to get my hand or arm even partway into the opening without tilting the seat upward. Just curious as to whether that was your general approach.

Thanks! Just looking for insight into how others have done this.

No, just pushed my hand in there. I have the cloth seats, so maybe that made it easier.
