6.4L Transmission Filter Upgrade on a 6.0L
#31
Well it going to be about 10K more miles before I dump any fluid.
The truck has just over 211K miles and the trans when in at about 187K
in March of 2015. So I really only have about 24K miles on the trans.
Roadtrip is a really nice app for tracking this stuff.
I just made a note to myself to open the filter at the next change.

I changed out the original internal filter at 100k miles. I just couldn't leave that thing in there "indefinitely". Anyway, when I plant to change mine over to the 08 filter is at 200k miles on the engine or 100k miles on the filter. We should get a good idea of the solids build up at a range of service miles - 30k, 100k, 200k.

Are you sure the ambient temps were the same?
It's still not settled why my truck has cooler temps, but the suspect is my trucks thermostat is not holding back fluid as it should. But if so, if the pan change would increase cooling, then I should see more of a drop then anyone.
In the vid I showed a warm and cool day, with a dramatic change in trans fluid temp. What I had to edit out due to time was a video at the end, an exact duplicate of the run prior to the pans change, on a day where the ambient temps were close. I can post the lost vid, but here are the screen shots, before and after the pan change.
So from my truck, ambient has an impact, but not the pan IMO. But this might also be a difference between trucks. I not sure if 10 degrees means all that much here. 50, 75 ok.

Depends, if there is more surface area so you can dissipate heat. Adding volume will create a larger heatsink and take longer to get the fluid up to temp but once up to temp and no additional surface area it will act just like the 6.0 pan and offer no more cooling effect.

No, it will not. More fluid does not dissipate more heat. If the pump were larger and more fluid were pumped through the trans it would dissipate more heat. More fluid sitting in the pan does NOTHING to dissipate heat.

Bud,
If the second part was to me that's why I said the differential between our trucks may be due to the different characteristics of these trucks thermostats. The same with 87crewdually who gets up on temp quickly. I've got an '03, you've got an '05, Sean's manual shows there were maturing changes in the circuits, and we probably have different dilithium crystals too.

Can we get someone that tows and has a data logging app to
do that and look at trans trans temp,OAT, speed and load.
I don't tow so can't look at the numbers when towing.
If you have one of the SCT 3015 tuners you could use the
data logging app that they have or one of the other tools out there.
