oil capacity 6.7

I was under the impression that capacity had been changed to 15 qts from the 13 before... manual says 15 quarts... had it changed today at dealer and they said ford website for service only calls for 13.... reads full... what is the story?

Website yet to be updated. It took months for the change from 15 to 13 in 2011. Not sure what to think about the dipstick unless the tech just topped off until it read right.

On another note, this is just one more reason why I do my own service. I just don't trust most dealers to even do oil changes right. Not saying anything is wrong with your service but something smells in Denmark.

They put 13 quarts in because I use full synthetic. The dipstick indicated full, I had them check and show me. Since we travel all of the time doing my own is no longer an option..I was hoping that one of the factory people here could verify if they changed this or not..

I think someone was blowing oil smoke up your tailpipe!

Why can't someone come up with a dipstick that you can actually see the new oil against the hashmarks? Three and four dips into the crankcase sometimes to actually see it. And how archaic is a dipstick? After all this time no one has ever developed a better way to measure. On the 1929 Dodge boat just getting completed which uses a 1924 4 cyl Dodge truck engine there is a float in the crankcase and a rod protruding out of the bottom of the block which indicates oil level. That is more advanced than putting a stick down a tube to see where the oil is. Really now.

modern Aircraft Turbine engines still use a dip stick, but also have a sensor to light a warning light. We just never trust the sensors. still check the dip stick before flight. I am an AC technician and check it for the pilots.

I've never seen a dipstick from a 6.7.. What type is it? The ones on the 6.4 and what's in my Mustang Cobra are horrid, the zinc weight on the bottom of a cable. Very difficult to see the oil when it's fresh.

The 6.2 Ford is reasonable, has the old blade type, and little holes at the add and full marks. The holes fill with oil if it's past that level so you know where it is.

The Ram Cummins is horrid as well. Instead of a zinc weight on the cable it's plastic on the cable.

That is one thing that GM does do right.. Maybe it's because their gas engines drink so much oil. The dipstick has 4 or 5 holes throughout the add to full range so you can see if it's 1/4 quart low, 1/2, 3/4, full quart etc. On the old 7.4 and 8.1 engines we used to have at work, when doing monthly oil checks they'd routinely be 2-3 quarts low.

Dwag, that is the problem.. book says 15, truck only takes 13 to bring dipstick to full. Dealer says that their tech guide shows 13 so I am hoping to get feedback from someone at ford that would know for sure if anything was changed.

Called Ford and the official word from them is that the owners manual must be a misprint the capacity is 13 quarts just as before.

Wow, so all that discussion about additional oil and coolant are for naught? Remember how we guessed that the extra liquids was surely a sign that they would be boosting the HP and Torque numbers? Why do we even try?
