Just a pic off the net..light switch is above the ignition , wipers to the right of the ignition , then on the right side of the steering column there is the choke and throttle. On mine there was a plug in the hole above the throttle. I don't have any pictures of the dash before I plugged all the holes.. On mine all the heater controls were on an extension bolted to the bottom of the dash on the right side of the column.

John, I think that the hole above the throttle on your truck was for the cigarette lighter. I have seen them with/without the lighter option.

Nope. The truck is low on the list of projects right now...I am finishing body and paint work on a 54 and a 53 for other people and I have a 40 Ford coupe in the driveway just waiting to be completed and driven. Maybe sometime next summer I'll get back to the truck.

I love my 56 Fords but I have always loved the 40 ford coupes too. Did you start a restoration or restomod from original stock 40 Ford?

Thanks FS. Previous owners can sure make a mess of them dashes. All three of my 56 Fords had the stock heater controls mounted under the dash on a bracket. I have never seen the configuration you have labled showing the fan switch and tempreture control in the dash. Those two holes have always been throttle cable and choke. The other thing I see in your picture is 2 speed fan switch and defrost/floor heat in the same location. One switch can not do it both. One is electric and the other is cable that runs to a flap that routes the air up in one location and down in the other location. Unless there was a configuration I have never seen, Im wondering if someone removed the original stock bracket from your dash and used the throttle and choke holes for heater controls? Nice job on the dash by the way. Mine had an electric fan mounted to it, and some extra holes for God only knows what. Very distorted right where it shows the most, but I think I finally have it fixed. Let us know what you think on those heater controls being mounted in the dash. First time I have ever saw that.

My 54 has the heater controls on bracket under dash and that is the stock location on 54 but I know in 56 they did some changes on stuff. Just my 2cents.

just so I do not end up with somebody else's credit, these pictures are not of my 56. these are pictures i'll saved for my reference while fixing the holes that were in my dash. also, the short, wide slot with rounded ends are for a shift indicator. I want to say it's a lokar piece and I have pics of it installed if there's interest.
