MN66 is starting off with a positive reputation.
I had quotes of $850 and $1100 to have the work done. To me that was stupid money.

I spent about $250 on materials and it took me about 8-10 hours to strip it down to raw metal, paint it and reupholster.

It was my first time doing anything like it, and it was kinda fun. It's better to have 2 sets of strong hands when you get to the last half of the hog ringing. Best to do the work when the vinyl is warm and pliable.

Regards,
Corey

Yeah I agree that's a little spendy for what it is. A good bench seat is pretty comfortable, like driving the couch. $250 sounds OK have to look into this.

The truck build sheet is there, under the springs too. That will tell you a whole lot more.

Tedster: There are covers available with the gear & lightning bolt from both SMS in OR, and Distinctive in CA

SMS says $695.00 for a seat cover. Any color. It is vinyl and cloth (plastic type feel)—like the original. Says Doug at SMS.
What do you think of this cover? I heard that the covers with the cloth tend to pull the strings out. But I don't know. Seems kinda pricey.
The logo is really nice though.
Does this seat cover/set look like a Custom Cab ?

The back looks pretty close to what's left of my factory custom cab seat. But the vinyl weave is not on the bottom on mine.

My one 4x4 truck still has its original seat covering in good shape. One small tear in the center - probably from some object that poked through it years ago.

This is 1966 Custom Cab trim code E81.

Here's a good shot of the grain

And the logo

A bit dusty in this pic, but I cleaned it off since.

Let me know if you want any other pics.

The reproduction cover looks very good. Only thing I've noticed is the seat material - the pattern on the part that you sit on - doesn't wrap as far around the edges as the originals did.

You might think my foam is crushed down or something else is amiss, but that's the way they originally did them. Compare to this shot from the brochure.

Looks good, Chad. I hope you can find a pro who can fix that.
SMS is the only source and if you don't like their price, you can make some yourself. It is genuine NOS, but expensive.

1965 and 1966 seat frame and spring difference.

1966 backrest spring attachment.

1965 backrest spring attachment. It has clips that are welded to the frame.

Where the backrest attaches to the seat frame is wider on the 1965 also.

bottom foam is 5" . I found a brochure image on eBay for the '66 custom cabs, and that is what the Ford literature said.
