Glen Campbell.. that's some AM gold right there. I was more of a rock and roller growing up but have enjoyed discovering a lot of the country greats. Merle Haggard was great, Jerry Reed was a phenomenal guitarist, as is, believe it or not, Roy Clark. Chet Atkins, and Merle Travis. Another great guy I didn't pay much attention to was Doc Watson. He didn't get a lot of airplay because he didn't write any of his own tunes afaik. Another feller that has some good tunes is Johnny Horton, he is of course well known for "Ballad of New Orleans"; I had that on 45 when I was a little kid, but I played it so much my brother broke it in half.

How about Marty Robbins? And yes, I just learned about the Wichita Lineman three days ago and I realize how amazing it is. Its like country but the tune has such haunting sounds and instruments that it can't be country.
Also, a strange country song is Convoy by C.W Mcall...

Fixed it for ya.
That song helped fuel the CB craze of the 70's!
So, to your question, "What older country song did you discover recently?" Since I grew up with a pop who was into Country, I grew up listening to the "old" stuff, not knowing it was old until much later in life.

It's an amazing song.
Also, for all you religious folk, "The Masters Call" is fantastic.
One of my new favorites is this:
"The nights are often cold, but I'll get by, as long as I can throw that rope, brand that calf, dream of the girl in a photograph..."
