1987 Ford F-250

my Ford F-250. has a choke dash pot and this dash pot has a wire that comes off the bottom of said dash pot and were does it GO. thank you

Moved from 6.0L diesel thread, guys should be able to help you here better but I will give it a shot.

You have 3 types of choke mechanics, one is vacuum, other is mechanical using a spring that heats to pull off the choke as the engine warms and last is 12 volt.

The spade terminal is supplied with +12V from the alternator’s stator terminal. Whenever the engine is running, the ceramic heater warms the bimetallic thermostat to open the choke.

1987 F-250 chock to Altenater.

so what your saying is that there is a female wire combing
from the Altenater that plugs in to the choke dash pot correct me if I'm wrong

There is a white/black wire coming from the alternator stator that provides around 7V to your choke coil.

Only aftermarket carbs take 12V, and they have + & -- spade terminals not just a single bullet like the Motorcraft choke cap.

Thanks for the voltage correction, I never worked on one of these kind of an old GM gasser guy from the days gone by.

You offer a fine description of how the choke system works.

Yes the wire splices into the alternator harness
Power on the stator wire is 1/2 wave, whatever the charging current is.
My 1987 carbureted F 250 charges at 14.35V, so....7.17 or so?
