Need help finding 6.9l fuel line
Hey all,
I have been trying to repair a fuel leak for the last few weeks without any success. I have a 1985 F250 with the 6.9l diesel. The steel fuel line that runs from the back of the injector pump to the fuel filter mount keeps leaking at the pump. I was able to track down replacement rubber gasket/seals. It helped but it still leaks.
I have been trying to search for a replacement line but I have not had any luck. I was hoping someone might have an engine diagram with the part number or possibly knows the specs? I am thinking of getting a steel line and bending it myself but wanted to double check on here to make sure I get the correct one.
Thanks Chris
I posted this in another forum and was directed here, in case someone sees it twice.

your best bet is to find a used one ..
if you can't find one then midwest fuel injection sells lines ..
though i suggested this to someone else and there was an issue with length .. i don't remember i think it was for a van and slightly different .. try the junk yards first .. but you'll probably not find any .. but maybe ..
i cannot vouge for midwest fuel customer service or product .. i just know they have them .. do check to see if there is some kind of adapter or something on there and make sure you order the truck version not the van line ..
you can't make a brake line work they are very precise .. it's been tried and misfires .. u have to have the correct line for it to work right ..

your absolute best bet is go to your local hose and fitting store,
and change to a steel braided AN line.
the IP requires a 1/2" NMPT with a o-ring to the ip.
and use -6AN on the other side.
at the filter its either 3/8 or 1/2" NPT to -6 an
I used oil resistant steel braided line and 2 "do it yourself" AN fittings.
to the IP, I used a 160*-ish sweep fitting.
cost about 60 bucks.

Where is it leaking? It is leaking at the connection to the diesel filter? Or is it leaking at the connection to the IP?
The metal line that runs from the Diesel filter to the center of the IP is not high pressure. You can just by some brass fittings and replace it with rubber hose. On one of my IDI engines, the PO put a brass 90 degree elbow on the center inlet. Then he put a 3/8" bib brass fitting on the diesel filter. Then he just cut a 2-3foot section of rubber fuel hose to connect them.
I have a rubber hose on my 1988 IDI as well, but that's because I am running an e-pump and some front end selector valves. Regardless, I just took the line going into the IP (because it was not leaking at the IP connection), and used a simple pipe cutter to cut that line in half. Then I slid a 3/8" rubber fuel hose over that line, and used a hose clamp to secure it.
As long as it's not leaking at the connections, then you could cut your existing line, and use rubber to connect. But if it's leaking at the connections, just go to Home Depot and buy some brass fittings, then use a section of standard diesel fuel hose.

You need this part, then the rubber Push-Loc hose pushes on.

OK, this above link is dead. So here is a link to what I think I posted back in 2017

Partial Ford P/N is 9L273 (for a 7.3 idi, I can't find for the 6.9). Three lines come up, but (Fuel Return Line
Diesel-except DI Turbo; Fltr to inj pump) I believe is the one. Might have to give your VIN for clarification.
Stupid statement, but there is an O-ring on the adaptor between the adaptor and IP. If you didn't already, maybe replace that or have a gander at it; might be leaking there and running down the fitting on the line?

The plus side of this is you can get a 5/16 ORB to 1/8 NPT adapter:
And then just use a hose-barb and rubber fuel line to do it all.
I also find this 45-degree adapter quite handy:
Also, here's a 1/8 NPT to 3/8 hose barb fitting:
(Mind, I just got mine at the local hardware store - same basic price)
On the fuel filter side, you just need a 1/4 NPT to 3/8 hose barb there.
