4x4 oil filter adapter tilted? FE engine unknown...

4x4 oil filter adapter tilted? FE engine unknown...

I'm a big fan of the FE and have/had many. But new to me over the weekend, I picked up a '76 F150 4x4 and the oil filter adapter isn't straight down OR straight out but down and tilted like 30 degrees towards the front? Was this stock for a 4x4 or has this motor been swapped from a car of some sorts? Motor runs strong and I haven't had time to check stroke yet.
I've searched with no luck.

1965/76 FE engines:

Ford/Merc Passenger Cars and F100/250 4WD's have the filter pointing downwards.

F100/250 2WD & F350 have the filter mounted somewhat horizontal.

The trucks with the horizontal filter adapter have a engine cross member that the right and left engine supports bolt to.

If the left rubber insulator breaks (somewhat common), the engine rears up, comes back down, but if the filter is pointing downwards, it will hit the cross member, possibly splitting it open.

4WD's do not have the engine cross member, as the right & left engine supports bolt to the inner frame rails.

So where does the angled filter adapter fit in? I found one on ebay with part number if that helps: D6TE-6881-AB

But they do not say what it's from? I always thought if the 3'rd letter was "T" then it was from a truck?

Here's my pics along with the clean one from ebay.

Again any help would be much appreciated.

Just because the 3rd digit of the part numbers prefix is a T, doesn't mean it's only for F series trucks.

The T refers to ALL series' of trucks, Bronco's and sometimes Econolines.

Here's one more from the one currently for sale on ebay. All I can find is one person on an FE specific forum suggested 5 years ago that these only came from a '76 4x4 truck and that if you compare the oil galleys, it's much more improved over the other 2 types. And also a prime candidate for a lot of FE swaps to miss frame rails. Odd though for mine seems to be angled TOWARDS the frame rail???

This is the first '76 specific 4x4 Ford truck I've ever had with an FE. But my professor that taught me FE techniques emphasized tremendously on rounding the corners on the FE filter adapter oil galleys.

Sorry NumberDummy, we were posting at the same time.

So 76 4x4 F100/F150 only. And now I know why others argue that their F250 4x4's had one going straight down and arguing the fact.

So I guess I can get it out of my head now that possibly I had a 428 swapped in. And most likely it's just the good ole stock 360.

Mine is a F100, not a F150. It was used in the mud extensively and I've been pulling all the metal off to replace along with fabbing new cab mount brackets and coil spring buckets. Very messy truck. Don't plan on cleaning it at all and plan is to just throw it together so it won't be much of a build.
