53 upgrade to disc
I'm looking for info on putting some 83 f-250 rotors on my 53 f-250 straight axle.Been searching through the archives and only found one similar where someone had bought a kit that used "late model ford truck" rotors and chevy calipers. Does anyone know if an 83 might just be a bolt-in or am I going to have to go tear one apart and measure everything to find out?I figure by what I've seen on this site, someone must have tried this.

Believe it or not, you lost me. Where does the 150 come in ? I think I forgot to mention that I want the 8-bolt set-up. When I got the truck it was a pretty origonal looking 53 f-250 wrecker. Had a winch mounted behind the cab that ran off a PTO off the trans. and everything. However the rear-end was junk (all I had was the housing with enough parts to mount the wheels ). I went and put a rear from an 83 f250 (dually) which has 8-bolt lugs without thinking of the front-end at the time. I saw an 83 in the wrecking yard the other day with the 8-bolt and was wondering what I may have to do to make it fit. I don't think swapping spindles is an option since the 83 has the twin I-beam. I guess tomorrow morning I will run down there and tear it apart and measure everything to see if it will work. Why is it that nobody sells 8-bolt kits? All to be found are 5-boltand usually go along with IFS. I want a truck it supposed to ride like a truck.

Well, back from the yard but lost as ever. Have maybe think of another direction to go. Still want disc and still want 8 bolts. From what I saw today, 150's all had 5 bolts and totally different spindles( smaller). The 80's era spindles would almost work except that where the oter bearing rides measured 1.000", mine are only .875".Than there was the tie rod conn. in front of the axle. I looked at a few from I think 66 that basically were the same as the later one with the tie rods behind the axle. Only thing is that the king pin looked to be bigger than mine. I got home and called a yard the works with 47-70's or some 80's and he told me "you can't have disc brakes on a straight axle". Sounds like a challenge to me.Kinda like when they told me I couldn't fuel inject my carbed 85 ram, but that another story for another place.

Unknowingly you proved what I meant. The kit uses later F-150 rotors and I didn't know if Ford changed anything from 150 to 250. You probally can use 73-79 spindles. You may need to drill the I beam to fit the kingpins and make a spacer to make up the difference in I-beams. I thought about doing this. You probally will have to use a '72-76 Ranchero steering box because I think the truck box might put the column through the dash.
