Steering Wheel Upgrade or Repair

I have an 2005 F350 King Ranch and the steering wheel is really showing some wear. The darker brown leather at the top has started ripping and pulling away and the color on the sides is rubbing off also. It has the radio and cruise control on it.

Is it possible to swap to a new model steering wheel? or would I be better off seeing if a leather repair/detailing company could restore the original?

Thanks.

I'm curious about that, too. Mine's not really damaged, but worn enough it could use a recoloring of the leather in the commonly grabbed spots at 9 and 3 o'clock.

You can find replacement leather kits for the dark leather online from Richmond Upholstery. It's possible that you could ask them about the lighter colored leather too.
There's a couple threads talking about using a late model F150 steering wheel. The problem with this is color compatibility.
I know I've seen ads for companies who specialize in custom leather steering wheels too. Unfortunately the ones I saw were manufacturer specific and Ford wasn't shown.
Hopefully you'll get this figured out for all of us dreamers. Our trucks are ten years old and most King Ranch specific appearance parts are no longer supported by Ford. I found the pebble cloth carpet for a Lariat, but even with a substantial discount it was still $550!

There used to be a guy in MI who offered rebuilding the wheels on eBay. I never used him but I remember guys at TDS liked the work.

I like the richmond upholstery option, doesn't look to bad or hard to do, and if i do it correctly it could look pretty good. I was going to call a local leather repair company and see if they could find something that could match and swap it out with the damaged leather, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Mine is pretty worn over the years, I don't know if there is any repairing or detailing that could be done or if it would be better to replace or throw a steering wheel cover over it and call it good. I would prefer upgrading to the 08-10 king ranch wheel but I've read that the steering wheels are not interchangeable.

Definitely don't do the cover IMHO. Looks well, like a cover. Go to a larger used car dealer and sniff around. See if they use their own detailer or hire a guy. They can touch up the tan leather possibly. I know they use air brushing on a lot of surfaces. You might need it redone occasionally.

That's not a bad idea, next week I'll look around and see if I can come up with anything.
