2001 F-450 No start
Hey everybody,
I'm look for some thoughts on a truck I'm look at buying. It is a 2001 F-450 dump truck with a 6.8 V-10 and manual trans. I am not sure of the mileage.(forgot to look) it has been sitting for 4 years and not running for most of them. Previous owner passed away. Wife is selling it now. I checked the oil and other fluids. The oil looks clean and everything else does too. I noticed it has a steel fuel tank. I have heard that the liner can come apart on them. Is this a diesel issue or gas also? Any thoughts at thing to look at would be helpful. Don't want to spend a bunch of time to see if it will run and loose the negotiation factor of a no start, and don't want a money pit.
Thanks,
Frank

I bought it.
Well I bought the 2001 F-450 6.8L V10 5 speed Dump Truck. (photos in My toys album)
It has some issues that I would like input on. The Truck has been sitting for 3 years.
Here are the things I have on the way.
Workshop Manual with wiring diagrams, fuel and air filter, owners manual, and 4 newer tires on rims(2 on truck a 3 years old the other 4 are?????).
The things that I know I have Issues with:
1) Starter will not engage with ignition. I can jump across solenoid on starter and motor will turn over.
2) Fuel pump not working. I did use a small amount of starter fluid/ether to make sure motor would fire over before I bought it.
3) Brake line that looks like it comes from the ABS module down the frame rail is weeping right about where it goes under the fire wall.
I found a part number on Rock Auto (BRTR150) that says its motorcraft but can't get a matchup on Ford Parts to confirm if its the right one, or a photo to see what I'm getting.
There are a few more issues that I might need help on later, but these should get it running, driving and stopping.
Any input would be appreciated and helpful,
Frank
