Test Drove a Truck/ Need experienced advice.

Okay. 2006 F-250 ext cab, 4x4 Lariat w/5.4, had 147,000 on the odo. Outside and inside in great shape. The issues I have were mechanical.

1) Sitting idling it had a knock to it. Owner told me it was cam pazers(however you spell that). I have done some reading on this before, so is this an issue that needs addressed right away?, or can it wait a bit? Or something I need to turn and run from? Is this normal at 147,000 miles?

2) During the test drive I couldn't really get it to down shift. When you put it to the floor it picked up speed but no downshift and rapid acceleration like expected. When I can to a complete stop and tried it again it revved out better but just didn't seem to be shifting as normal. Also during this acceleration the engine light started flashing for about 10 seconds or so and then went off. I am comparing the acceleration to my wife's 98 5.4 expedition.

3) I pulled the codes an it gave me a PO 300 code. Random misfire. Owner said he just had all the coil packs replaced along with the exhaust manifold gaskets.

Is there an explainable reason the acceleration was off?

Anyways. Thoughts or ideas? My dad budget is very limited so we are trying to work within it.

Thank you in advance.

if the fixes were easy or cheap. they would already been done..

my opinion.

look elsewhere.

misses, fuel injectors, valves.
transmission should downshift. regardless how bad the engine is running. trouble.

Not to be a downer Debbie, but I can smell trouble brewing in the kitchen and it's not a smell I like! I would be concerned about the truck, as for the codes if the po can show proof of repairs for the coils, ECT (work orders) be sure to factor that into your decision, The transmission should Downshir The transmission should downshift no matter what or how far to the floor your foot is

Don't spend money on a truck you have to spend more money on.

I was thinking along the same lines. It's a shame. It's a nice clean truck. But I don't want issues.

Yeah, if it was a cheap or easy fix, the current owner would have fixed it already. My guess is it's turning into a money pit for the current owner and he's just trying to bail out of it now.
