If I were to trade (which I may), it would be to get the '17 CC-SRW Gasser... Far different truck than what I currently have.
Randy,

WHY?

I just asked that question in another thread I started. Perhaps your needs have changed as mine have, I no longer need a dually, my new 5th wheel only tilts the scales at 8250 lbs, so my pin weight is nothing compared to my 5500 lb truck camper I did have.

In the final analysis I think I will go SRW and stay with diesel....

I understand - but if you go back over the OPs plan, it was basically to replace what he has now with the exact same truck, but a year newer... I know of no differences between the 15 & 16 trucks...

Randy, I was wondering why you go gasser over the diesel on a '17? I thought the same thing, maybe go gasser but, even with towing under 10k lbs and less than 2k in pin weight, I just think (?) the gasser will be hunting gears and suckin gas...

The reason for asking is my local dealer is sitting on a lot of 16's he can't seem to move. He claims I could trade truck for truck, 1 year newer, 0 miles, full warranty, for 5 grand. Is it worth it or not, depends. Thanks for the reply's.

Hi Don,
For what little heavy towing I need to do, I would just let the SOB do some sweating and hunting. Yes, when I tow - it's friggen huge at over 18k and 4900# pin. I've towed that trailer a couple of times and the last time was just about a year ago. It's currently parked on a leased spot in an RV resort in AZ and will likely not move far from where it's at (if at all) over the next 3-5 years..

Hi Dave,

While that's not a bad deal - I think it is close to break-even when you consider the cost of a warranty for a year as well as tires and depreciation.
There would need to be something else in it for me - even if only a color change..

I am sort of in the same boat right now. Current truck is a 2015 6.2 with 19k miles on it. The local dealer has two different 2016s with the 6.7 that have caught my eye. One of the 16s is exactly my current truck, while the other is a different color and some other minor things are different.

I am on the fence as to trade mine in for the diesel. My camper is not that heavy, about 8.5k fully loaded, and the 6.2 tows it well, but I miss having a diesel.

I am at a loss right now as I am happy with the current truck when I am driving around town but when towing or on the highway, it is nothing like my old diesels.

Decisions, decisions.................

If all you really need is the 6.2, I would stick with that for sure..
If I really missed the sound of a diesel, I would put a half dozen lug nuts in a coffee can and tie it up to the exhaust system...
Today's diesels are not the engines of yesterday.. They are far more complex. Even many of us who have a significant amount of experience with the old diesels do not want to touch the new stuff in terms of working on them outside of relatively simple maintenance.
The cost of an extended warranty on top of the 8k+ buy-in price of the diesel should be enough to scare off most people that don't need one..

Even though my heavy tow weight demands a stronger engine, I'm still considering selling mine off and moving to a gasser for the relative simplicity of its systems..
