Looking at a 69 F100
So, I'm getting back to the States in Nov, and looking for a 5th gen for a daily driver until it's bike weather again in Colorado then start a build on it. My wife is pretty mechanically inclined and taking a look at this here tomorrow. Owner is asking 5,500 which is a pretty steep imo, but not atrocious. It's a original 4x4 F100 with a 360. 280k mi, rebuild on trans and x-fer case, new clutch, 4-10 rear end (says he has paperwork for all of it)
She's going to take a bunch more pics, undercarriage, engine, transmission case damage, transfer case damage, rear end housing damage, bed, interior floor rusting, suspension, ect. Checking for signs of block damage, over heating, head's, or aftermarket tampering. I'm hoping it's all original other than what's stated, she's driven plenty of old manuals and knows some of the quirks of the old 4 speed's (supposedly what it has) but can any of you guys think of some other things she should look at?

The body looks straight, but look at these areas for rust
-Fender supports where they meet the firewall
-Radiator support mounts at the bottom of the radiator
-Cab mounts
-Is the drip rail rusted out
Take a look at the wiring under the dash since it has an aftermarket radio and equalizer. Does it look like a plate of spaghetti or is it dressed in well. No tail light lenses? How's the wiring going to those?
How are the brakes? Are the lines all crusty "all original"....lol
Is the seat all mushy or is there plenty of support & spring left to it.
All original means different things to different people. To me, that means no upkeep, so all suspension bushings will be cracked and need to be replaced.

And i'll add have her check the floor pans which was one of the first to be noticed,
Or it was for mine.
The cab mounts are a little hard to notice until they start the paint to blistering as other areas is the only way or then by poking with a ice pick then you'll find the bad areas. But, I don't think the owner would like her punching holes in it any where.
That looks a little un-keep for the asking price to me.
But, I do understand asking prices our higher in the snow country.
If this seller has had to pay someone to do all the work on the truck then, I see why it looks so un-kept as he maybe could not even do the smaller type of stuff.
That's about a $1500-$2000 dollar truck where I live the way it looks in the pictures.

I was raised in the snow country in Ohio. So I know the prices of 4X4s goes up in the winter time. The owner of this rig must think it's December. Looking at those pics I think it's way over priced. It doesn't "show" well at all with what you can see. Let alone what you can't. I'd pass on it buddy.

I realize there isn't an over abundance of Bumpside 4x4 F100s running around but, just because it is a 4x4 doesn't mean the price he's asking is justified. Overall condition is still a major factor, regardless of what it is.

Yep took a pass on this one, milage didn't add up, spoke to 2 different people about it, neither seemed to speak to the other, original data plate is missing, insisted it's a 390 but stroke at 3.5 reflects a 360, wiring is a complete mess, deep gouge in the transfer case, and guy told my wife he would "prefer if a guy drove it for a test" On to the next, thanks guys.
