Wife's 04 Escape threw the PO136 code for bank 1 sensor 2 02 sensor. Replaced it and light is off. Not convinced something else isn't causing it. Thoughts?
Bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 2 (for a V type) do the same thing. They monitor the output of the catalytic converter to check that it is working. Inside the converter, there is oxidation and reduction going on.{chemistry terms about add/remove O2} The computer knows what is coming in, knows the gas 'content' from sensor 1, and 'knows' what the result should be with a 'good & functioning' converter. Most times the sensor 2's are 'just along for the ride' until the catalytic converter is poisoned, and then they throw codes.
It is an unusual failure, from observation of 'things' in the FoMoCo area. Both sides are the same, bank 1 & bank 2, but the wire length may differ. I think sensor 1's are the same, again with lenght or terminal differences. If you get a 'generic', it will have bare wires and you get to re-use your plug connector, after cutting, stripping, etc.

Drive it and see what happens over time. It's fairly useless to guess about what *might* happen.
I have the same thing on my 03. But when I look at the reading for bank 1 sensor 2 I get a consistent 0 volts. I pulled the pug apart, cleaned it up and checked the wiring and everything looked good. I had 12 VDC on the white wires, any ideas if there's a way to read the actual voltage off the sensor instead of thru the computer? That way you'd be able to rule out the wiring.
I'm thinking of replacing it and seeing what happens.
