Look on the metal door tag for "AXLE" Post up the three digits. The vin you posted won't tell us about the axles.

VIN: F26YC047627
AXLE CODE stamped on the 2nd line-far right of the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

The 3rd digit of the AXLE code pertains to the front axle, but it may not be present, or if it is, may not decode to the front driving axle ratio/capacity.

If this is the case, then the following will be necessary.

Dana front driving AXLE ID tag located under two of the bolts that retain the inspection cover to the housing. Don't be surprised if it's missing.

And btw: The VIN you posted has the wrong 6th digit (0) for a 1973.

Ok, I may be f'd doubt the axle tag is still there, and there's no warranty plate, the cab(including doors) was replaced 30 years ago.

NumberDummy what should be in place of the 0? I had to get the VIN from the ownership(had to crack my dad's safe to get it) as I couldn't find it on the frame by the starter and I'm not ready to lift the cab.

F26 = F250 4WD Pickup.

Y = 360 2V

C = Oakville Ontario Canada Assembly Plant.

The last 6 digits decode to the year, but the first of the digits is a letter, so it cannot be an 0 (zero). It cannot be the letter O, either.

The letter O would be correct if it was a 1977, but then it wouldn't have a 360 2V

Look on the Safety Standard Certification Label, glued to the B pillar below the striker plate for the VIN .. post what it is.

Thanks for the info, but again no info in the door jamb as the cab and doors were bought surplus(according to my dad and uncles). I'll check the axle tomorrow for a tag, if I can't find one is there any other way to tell? Like number of leaves in the springs? I think it's a closed knuckle Dana 44. Thanks.

Look for a Dana "BOM" number stamped onto one or both of the AXLE tubes.

The number will be similar to this: 603394-1

73-79 Ford Trucks

F25 = wheel drive pickup (F250)
C = ????? Engine code. Could it be a "G" = 302 2-bbl.
K = Assembly Plant Kansas City
447316 = ?????? First of these digits must be a letter. Identifies year.

Double check the VIN either on the title, the door pillar or the frame.

Welcome to FTE, lots of good people here.
F25CK447316
Check your VIN again, there are too many numbers in it. It has the correct number of digits (11) but the last six digits, the vehicles serial number, is composed of one letters and five numbers (73-77) or two letters and four numbers (78-79), your's has six numbers as the last six digits.

EDIT:
Like CelticOne suggested check your VIN against the one stamped on the frame, that's the best way to be accurate. The frame VIN is stamped in two places on the top passenger side frame rail, one visible, one hidden. The visible one is in the engine compartment, it can be anywhere between the radiator support and firewall but is most commonly found about inline with the alternator. Sometimes its lightly stamped and can be difficult to find/read.

Second edit: Could that first 4 in 447316 be an "A" instead? That would make your truck a '76 model. Their serial numbers ran from A00,001 to D25,000.
