steering wheel finish/coating

previous owner painted the wheel with enamel white paint. [60 f100] I've removed the paint and sanded the wheel smooth and soft, like the thighs of a cubano virgin. as much as id like to leave it, i can't after the raw material turns my hands black.

i'd like to hear from you all as to how you've resolved this problem if you've had it? i think i know how i want to finish the wheel but want to hear your solutions.

both my 58 & my econo s.wheels are finished with simple base coat clear coat, same as what ya'd spray the outside of a vehicle with.
both are 12 & 13 years since finished respectively and both are standing up very well, granted i don't wear rings or jewellery on my hands to mark em up with either.
