How do I know what I'm getting when buying deleted truck?

New to the forum and have a newbie question about buying a truck that's fully deleted. If everything is removed and I'm handed a box of parts what are the key parts to identify so I can return to stock if needed.

Thanks for any help and pics of the parts would be helpful too.

My assumption would be that a deleted truck is a tuned truck, and a tuned truck is a beaten truck. Not always the case I know, but that would be my assumption without proof otherwise.

It will be a pretty big box of parts.

My truck is tuned but not deleted. I don't beat on it.

Not sure all the parts you should get but the DPF/SCR is the big one. Then all the EGR parts. If you look at videos on doing a delete you should be able to see what came off.

Post a picture of the parts you would be getting and I'll identify what each part is.

Thanks for the replies, the video is a good idea. I'll be doing more research and due diligence before purchasing.

My truck's not beaten. Tuned (lowest setting) and deleted, which makes it much more reliable than a stock truck. Oil is still clear after 5000 miles. It all depends on the mindset of the one who tunes it. Did he do it for reliability or drag racing.

I have to agree. It really depends on the previous owner and what type of tunes this person used and how they ran the truck. If they ran it and towed it in some type of race tune, then I would run like hell.

The biggest thing with the tuning is what type of tuning the person used. If they were looking and running it for speed, then I would walk. Some of the tunes that are race type can advance the timing so much that it really puts the engine thru a beating due to the advance in timing.

I would have a good look at the tires and look and see what condition they are in, another thing I would ask the seller is what tunes they used the truck in most and what tunes they favored when and if they towed with it. That may give you some insight into how they used the truck.

And of course ask for those maintenance records and crawl over and under the truck and then get an oasis report.

Good luck getting a Ford Dealer to take a deleted truck on a trade

This is not really much different than the condition of any used vehicle. Could be the best tuned truck or the stock truck with 25K between cheap oil changes.

Correct. I wasn't trying to start a deleted/tuned vs stock debate. I'd much rather have a tuned truck that's been well cared for and properly maintained than a stock truck that's been neglected.

Trying to educate myself on all the parts involved with a full delete so I know what I'm getting.

Well, I can tell you what you WON"T get...

A stranded truck with a bad egt sensor
A jackhammer, ruff running regen problem.
A poorer fuel mileage from a regen every hundred miles.
A need to fill the def fluid
A message to drive too clean dpf
A filthy oil contaminated from the egr
A 1500° king kong dic under your truck
A message that you are now in a regen,,, and suffer a
mpg cut in half, or less, for 10-25 miles
A reduction in power because your def is empty
You won't get beat by a GM or Ram

Not necessarily...
No box of parts, just a one piece dpf center section of the exhaust more or less easily unbolted/removed.

Its a misconception, big busine$$, and not true that other parts 'need' to be removed. 2011-2016 deleted trucks run just fine for hundreds of thousands of miles with out even opening the hood to remove anything. Unlike the earlier <2010 Fords.

If you live in a state that has emissions testing, you will be getting a truck that won't pass. Traded in my '09 Ram diesel on the '16 Lariat, & dealer had the Ram brought into the shop, & looked at by a tec. to confirm that it was not deleted prior to even talking $.

Surprisingly enough, lots of dealers here are selling deleted trucks and taking them on trade.

Buddy of mine just traded his 2012 and dealer paid $2500 more for him to leave the tuner and intake/exhaust.

Another buddy just bought a 2015 dmax that's fully deleted, straight pipe and tuner. Hell dealer had it listed on the net as a deleted and tuned truck.

Apparently the rules are getting easier to break??
