'68 F100 2wd steering

Installed RedHead P.S. Box and a new rag joint, truck still has alot of play in steering wheel.
Steering has 1.5" of play before moving rag joint/box. Any adjustments I'm missing? Need shaft?
Truck has also been converted to a '77 tilt column.

Or the tie rods need to be replaced... everything needs to move in unison. A little bit of slop in each component in the linkage system can cumulatively result on steering play.

Have a someone work the steering wheel while directly observing each linkage connection....

If the steering wheel moves and the rag joint doesn't, like you said, then you have it narrowed down to something in the column, which would be the connection at the rag joint or the splines on the steering wheel.

How do you go about repairing the tilt part of the column. I've been told parts aren't available for those tilts.

Draglink, left tie rod and right tie rod end are probably worn out.

Truck has also been converted to a '77 tilt column.
Tilt column (only the wheel tilts) introduced in 1978 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline.

Many of the internal parts are the same: 1971/80 & some 1981/91 misc. Passenger Cars; 1978/91 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline.

Garrett: There's no "joint" associated with the tilt column mechanism. See pic: All the tilt related parts are located above the 7228 shift collar.

The assembly numbered 3524 looks like a "joint" or coupler which enables the tilt action.

Have someone wiggle the steering wheel while your look at the pitman arm attached to the box. If it wiggles in time with the steering wheel, check the connecting link going to the right front wheel. See if there is play at the pitman arm or the wheel. Do the same thing for the left tie rod. Also make sure the shaft going into the box wiggles in time with the steering wheel. If not, double check that the rag joint is good. That's really all there is to check on an F100, the steering system is as basic as it gets.
