Question 1984 Ford Ranger Diesel Perkins 2.2L - Oil Filter Question

Hoping for some advice on changing the oil filter on my 1984 diesel ranger. I have the original owner guide, which recommends a Motorcraft FL-786 (Full Flow) Long-Life oil filter or equivalent, but I know you can't get that type anymore.

The filter they gave me at the parts store wasn't wide enough at the bottom, so oil was leaking. I just put the old filter back on, but not sure what to do--go back to the parts store, or try to special order the correct filter online?
Would appreciate any help!

Wix 33395, or napa gold 3395 is the cross reference filter for the 84 ranger with 2.2 perkins diesel.
