I've been meaning to pick up this kit and do it just so I don't have to worry about it.

What's involved in the install? Looks like you jump a larger port to the current location. How easy is the access to wire/solder this up?

Also-am I minimizing the parts in this kit by thinking anyone could DIY with a 20amp cube fuse and some basic crimp connectors? I'm off warranty so genuine isn't going to get me much unless you tell me its worth it. Hardly the most expensive thing so I guess I should just buy it, but curious...

You aren't really installing a jumper. You are cutting the wire from the smaller fuse that supplies the power to the Fuel Pump relay and extending it with the supplied pigtail with a larger terminal. The terminal fits in the slot location opposite the buss bar that uses the larger fuses that have more contact area. You could outsource the parts elsewhere, but finding the terminal for the fuse box would be the hardest part. Another option would be to provide your own external fuse holder and splice it in.

OK, thanks for the info. I'll just buy the kit then.

I just had mine replaced at 125,000 miles - took the dealer several days to figure it out Quit on me several times. If this goes out on you, you can replace the fuel pump relay with another relay- that worked for me twice when it quit on me. I have an extended warranty so the cost was $100.

in my original reply in this thread, I posted a Dropbox link with the actual instructions that came with my kit. Took about 45 minutes for me and I did it at work. Hardest part was prying the fuse block apart. Once you get it undone, it's just a matter of locating the wire, and soldering in the new wire and placing the terminal in the correct slot. Putting it together is 2x as easy then taking it apart.

Does anyone know why this TSB doesn't apply to the other engines. Is it a different fuel pump or different fuse configuration, or something else different ?

I just had this issue yesterday and truck would not start. I assumed it was a bad fuel pump and towed it to dealer as I am at 58K and hoped it was under powertrain warranty. Upon diagnosis, they found the fuse issue. $350 for diagnostics and repair. I wish I knew about this before, could have saved me over $300.

I did the TSB mod a couple months ago. $15 and less than an hour start/finish in my driveway. Didn't won't the nightmare happening to me for such a cheap/easy preventive fix.

I never could get a answer to my post #23 above so I went ahead on my 3.7v6 and did it.

No worries ever since.

This fix can be done for $5 or so with off the shelf parts.

Mine was stalling on and off for a week or so, highway speed, low speed, coasting accelerating. Couldn't get it to replicate. Got so bad it stalled 4 times in 1.5 miles
$350 later to relocate a fuse....this is something that should be covered as a recall. If the fuse is melting its getting hot enough to start a fire. A stall at 75 mph is scary enough. What if my wife had been driving my truck? it could have ended in an accident. You cant expect everyone to be able to maneuver a 5,500 pound truck without power when it falls flat on its face in under a second.

This was my thought as I was reading thru this post!

I suppose it may become a recall in time, not sure what the standard is, but I know the old 3.8 v6 head gaskets didn't start out as a recall and I paid $1,800.00 for a repair because Ford didn't recognize it as a large issue. 6 months later I got a check in the mail for the $1,800 because they changed the status?

For now I'll do it rather than risk a fire or accident.

Maybe I'm wrong, but assuming many members here are DIYers and can do this simple mod, along with the fact that the cost of the kit is equal to the cost of a lunch out, why wait on Ford or worse yet, why wait on a failure to happen.
