Does anyone know of a supplier of FORGED 300/240 pistons (other than custom?
Does anyone have useful information that might assit others in finding a FORGED crank or 300/240HD engine such as: models used in (ie F350,etc), possible years to look for, block numbers, etc. ?

The search for a forged crank appears to be a hit and miss type of thing. I've kept my eyes peeled looking for one but the last one I saw (was on ebay) ended up selling for $350+ That's a lot of money to throw at "extra insurance" seeing as it still required a regrind and balance. I've come to the conclusion on my own turbo project that I'm going to simply run a cast crank if I can find a forged one for under $200 before I get the rest of the motor together. I've never read or heard of a 300 cast crank busting, so I believe (at least for my application under 5.5K) the cast crank is sufficient. I know what you mean about the forged piston suppliers. I've picked up a set of older rods with smaller 0.912" pin size. Running the smaller pin and a little searching - one can find forged 351W pistons that will work quite comparably. My machinist is trying to steer me toward customs pistions, but $550+ ouch...and no replacement selection just in case? I appreciate your effort trying educate others about the 300. It's a great motor with little published about it.

If you check the PAW ads in the hot rod magazines they list forged pistons for the 240 and 300, but they are almost as pricey as custom pistons. I am a big fan of custom pistons, especially on high end engines. It makes no sense at all to me to spend tons of money on an engine build only to install a piston that isn't exactly what the engine needs. This is especially true if you are using 0.912 pins because there are literally dozens of off the shelf "custom" pistons available. The number of different bore and stroke combinations available in the Windsor family has forced all the major piston manufacturers to make large quantities of several part numbers. This has driven the price way down. If you look through the piston section at www.flatlanderracing.com you will find custom pistons for $400/ set of 8.

 

sealed power makes a couple of different forged pistons for the 300. found some at partsamerica.com if you enter a 78 f150 as your vehicle but they are $85.00 there. found this site they are cheaper http://www.performancedepot.com/part...er=no&x=15&y=4

 

Silver Streak, I must be missing the boat.....I went to flatlander and didn't find anything to fit my application.....perhaps you could be more specific and supply some helpfull info. I've been a PAW customer for years and haven't seen a FORGED 300/240 piston for sale there yet; am I missing something ??????

 

In my '02 catalog, PAW lists within their "super stock piston kits" a forged piston configuration starting at $303. Nothing is mentioned about manufacturer, shape, or CC. They are out there. I remember reading a old TRW PN for forged 300 pistons.

 

Flatlander doesn't list anything for your application, you have to pick something from the 302/351 listings with the specs you want. From the main page click on "pistons" and a list of manufacturers will come up. Probe probably has the most listed on the site. There are several 302 and 351 pistons listed throughout the site that could work in a 300. If you don't find what you need call them and tell them what you want. The tech guy's name is Phil, he is very knowledgable and is a no BS guy.
