17 has bigger injectors and a different HPFP not sure if they were needed for the "initial" numbers but might be when they update us to 500/1000. LOL

The 50 quarts number is the total of both the primary and secondary systems. This from the 2017 owner's manual:

I knew about the new fuel pump and injectors.

I'm guessing it's the fleet information you're getting. According to the 2016 manual, the primary loop has 30.3 quarts of coolant. The fleet info you got shows the 2017 at 27.8. If that's true, the new truck will be using LESS coolant than the 2016. I seriously doubt it.

Well, I hope your document is lying. I'd prefer the extra volume stated in the owner's manual. What does the fleet doc say about oil capacity?

It doesn't state oil capacity that I can find. I like the extra capacity as well, but I'd be kind of surprised. Where is the extra 3 gallons of coolant being held? The overflow tank is exactly the same. Maybe different radiators?

If only Josh were standing next to the engineers. We would have an answer to that pretty quickly. Oh Josh?

It looks like the def tank capacity went from 5.0 gallons to 7.5 gallons too. That's another weight gain.

11 lbs-ish. I don't really consider that the same as the oil and coolant though. DEF is a consumable like gasoline and you can have one gallon or 7 gallons at any given moment. Oil and coolant is a fixed number all the time.

2.5 gallons x 9.2 pounds per gallon is 23 pounds plus a small difference in weight for the larger tank.

But I agree on the fact that it's a consumable and there can be different amounts at different times. Similar to the larger fuel tank, but they still have to account for full tanks when calculating GVWR.

Right, geeze, my math is way off. I should stop trying to figure stuff out and just click on the calculator.

Interesting that DEF weighs quite a bit more than water. 9.2 lbs/gal vs 8.3 lbs/gal. Hmmm.

Perhaps the new turbo manufacturer requires a certain amount of heat dissipation and by adding a couple quarts met that requirement.

Or, they found they needed two more quarts from the warranty work performed since 2011 when the 6.7 was released.

I'd say embrace it, the more oil the better......$10 more bucks every 5,000 miles is only $1,000 bucks over 500,000 miles on a $70,000 truck.......seems like a deal!
