Grille differences, 1950, F1 vs F7

hey everyone!

As i continue on with my Deluxe project, I have decided to go fenderless with this hot rod truck. Before you ask, no, its not going to be a rat rod. its better to be considered a race truck with a 1950 Ford on top.

Anyways, here is an idea of the type of front end treatment i was looking for. not my picture, just one off of google, and once again, im not going for the patina'd and straight axle look.

i want to trim the grille and tuck it tight up against the hood, as seen in this picture. from what the great people of this part of the forum have shown me, the cab and the hood are identical between an F1 and the F7 i am starting with, but the grille is listed as different Due to the fact thatr cutting is going to have to happen, i would much rather cut up my current grille instead of cutting up an F1 grille, if at all possible. So, gentleman ( and ladies, if there are ladies in this subforum) will cutting up my F7 grille give me the treatment I am looking for in the above picture? or do i need to find an F1 grille? Really, what is the difference between the F1 and F7 grille?

Not sure if one is taller than the other but the f7 f8 grill on 48 50 trucks is way wider than an f1.
The. F7 f8 grill is also the same as for a cabover.
I would think someone would definitly be in need of a good grill for a cabover project. Probably demand a decent price as well if its in good shape.

here was my truck, before last weekend, when i stripped the entire front clip off.

Attachment 288714

the grille is fairly straight and in decent shape, i mean, its got 66 years worth of age, but it a great starting unit.

could someone with an F1 grille take some measurements for me? total height from top of top bar to bottom of bottom bar? width of the bars?

I'm interested in your F-7 grille if the freight isn't too bad. PM me if you want to sell.

I thought the grille's would be the same width and height, just the fenders would be bulkier than the smaller counter parts..

the nose is completely different except for the inner fenders and the hood. The f-7/8 grill is bigger along with the upper and lower tins. Just buy an f-1 and don't cut up another big truck. there are millions of f-1's out there. I'll swap you a f-1 grill for that grill and ill buy the cowl emblems off of you

by cowl emblems do you mean the F7 badges on the side? if so, PM me an offer.

As for buying an F1, i was looking for one, for quite a few years. nothing came along., this came along, it was the right price, and so i bit. Im not planning on trashing the old fenders , upper tins, or lower tins, I wantthem to go to a decent home, where they will help other big trucks keep living.
