Sealing around clutch and brake pedals

What are these trucks supposed to have for keeping the elements out of the holes where the clutch and brake pedals go through the floor? We have the 2 cover plates, and the one plate underneath, but these still leave pretty big openings. Is there supposed to be some kind of pad sandwiched between the plates? I'm going to try some of the jute underpad from a coworker who is scrapping a car... I did add a plastic wear pad along the side of the clutch pedal, as it was scrubbing the metal and making a horrible screech every time we went to push in the pedal. Much nicer now.

We covered all the holes in the firewall with gorilla tape to keep out the heat, but a firewall pad is at least a year away budget wise...

I was going to ask about adjusting the temperature gauge so it read something useful, but I think I found everything I need to know in the FTE archives.

If you are talking about 53-56 trucks they had a thin rubber gasket or seal that went between those two plates. The following houses sell them. I got mine from Mid Fifty. You will have to take the round rubber pedal off to be able to slip the seal over the pedal arm to put it in place.

For the 51 there are 2 sets of plates and a foam seal that is sandwiched between to seal. Most of the venders should have that. This picture is from Macs site iirc. Steering column Floor Seal.

This one is for floor shift but there is one for column shift as well.

The 53-56 comes in three pieces, one each for the brake and clutch and one for the steering column.

If the pedal arm rubs the metal opening, you might check that your pedal shaft bushings are not badly worn.

Or the cab mounts are deteriorated. A very good replacement seal can be made from a piece of inner tube. A little silicon lubrication will make it slick.

yes, there is rubber that belongs there. You should get a catalog from all of the major suppliers. Midfifty will help out a ton, they have some good diagrams that help with assembly
