This past weekend I put about 160 miles on my 87 f.150 with the 5.8 L 351 W and it is the most highway miles I have put on since I bought the truck last summer from my neighbor for $300. I noticed the pin on the temp gauge spiked to between the N and O in the NORMAL range and every once in awhile it would drop down below the NORMAL range. Do you think my themostat is stuck? When I got home tonight I popped the hood and touched the upper radiator hose and it was hot. Any recommendations?

I wouldn't trust it. It's an idiot gauge and nothing else, as long as it's not on the c and not on the H, don't worry about it.
mine does the exact same thing. same engine as yours too
I replaced my thermostat last night and it still does it. So it has to be running just fine just the gauge is alittle off. As long as it's not in the cold or in the hot I'm gonna drive it as is.

My 89 does the same thing even after a cluster swap to a fresh looking cluster. Now I just have to crawl under the I6 engine manifolds to change the temp sender.......
