First off, I have a 2008 with 180,000 miles, dpf delete & straight piped, edge evolution tuner, AFE cold air intake, ATS stage 3 transmission, and a Mishimoto intercooler.

Seems in the last year or so, the truck is VERY sluggish from a dead stop. Blows lots of smoke, but takes forever it seems to build boost. Once it does spool up, it will throw your head back.

I'm curious if anybody has feedback on this. Is it the turbos going dead, or something else?

If it is white smoke, it's likely the EGR cooler. Otherwise, have you checked the turbo boot.

 

Blows black smoke for seems like forever, then the turbos spool up and it takes off. I have checked the turbo boots, they are all in good condition, and they are Mishimoto boots...

 

180K 6.4L would be a worn engine in my book. worn rocker tips, worn rings, bent rods, mushroomed lifters, mushroomed pistons, clogged coolers and egrs, lots of work to do .
