Power RAM Assist

Just picked up a 1975 F-250 with the 360, 4x4. It's not the prettiest thing, but I plan to tackle one thing at a time. Noticed that the power steering fluid has been leaking rather quickly (1/4 bottle a day). It's coming out of the shaft of the RAM power assist cylinder. I've looked everywhere online for a rebuild seal kit with no luck. I've called junk yards around and still no luck. I have found the entire cylinder on sale for the hefty price of $475 with a $300 core charge. Is this the route i'm going to have to take? I was thinking for sure there would be a seal kit for this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, off topic. And very well could be a dumb question. But I noticed that the rear brakes are drums, and the front are disc. Is that normal?

Look for a hydraulic repair shop in your area. If they rebuild rams, tell them yours is for a tractor or other piece of equipment. Most won't rebuild anything that is road-going because they're scared of the liability issues.

ALL 1959/75 F100/250 4WD's have front/rear drum brakes. Front disc brakes were introduced in 1976 F100/250 4WD

So, either you have a 1976, or a previous owner swapped in a 1976/79 F250 4WD front driving axle with disc brakes.

Post the VIN so the year can be determined.

Not at home to get the VIN, but I do remember seeing the build date of 12/1974 on the placard.
