Loved the video. Kent seemed almost disappointed in the 450's performance, not sure why. It was able to maintain about 40mph towing 30k (plus moving its own weight) up one of the steepest climbs in the country. Impressive! Thanks for sharing.

Maybe it was, I've only watched it once, and I thought I heard them say they were doing an ascension in the F-350 at the end as well, I probably just misheard.

I think that was a good run. It is not going to maintain speed at those weights, but the tow was stable and well controlled. The motor kept its cool with no meltdown.

I would be happy with that tow.

Didn't look very cool around the 10:30 mark.

There were no warnings going off so I'm sure it was within operating range. Would like to see that done on a 100 degree Texas day though.

I agree. The temp gauge appears to be raised to the 3/4 mark just before they slow for the tunnel. Note they say the ambient temp is 55 degrees. Imagine the same load in 90 degree heat. I'm a bit surprised... I think the two cooling systems of the Super Duty is the best setup.

He could have carried more speed up that hill. If he had used M mode, started the run in 4th gear at 65mph I bet it would have held better speed, might even have been able to switch between 3 and 4 to gain more speed too, in fact, I bet 3rd gear would have been better toward the end of the run. I know we peak at around 1800rpms but 2400 or so would have helped him hold speed.

On the high end trucks, you now get a digital coolant temp reading once she starts getting warm above the "idiot" gauge which is nice just like the DTE reading above the fuel gauge.

The cooling systems will be fine. Ike is tough, but these new ones are up to it

I have taken and held 55 up that grade with 26K. I too think the cooling is not as good as was in the 6.4, but it Is just fine.

Hearing the clutch fan kick on high is good. It is suppose too.

The point of the Ike Gauntlet is to let the truck manage and pull the mountain. There are probably several things they could do manually to increase their times but in order to evaluate the different brands it is up to the engine and transmission to decide the best method. Their series is really interesting if you backtrack and watch all their competitions. Some are run on Fancy Gap over in West Virginia too.

I thought he said he was in manual mode to start out (4th gear)
