What are the advantages of a 6.4 transmission pan on a 6.0 and is it worth doing ?

With the 08 pan, you can install the 08 filter which is full flow. Much better than the roll of toilet paper in the bypass

and it filters 100% of the fluid all the time, not just 10%... what the toilet paper filter does.

And the price is not really that bad for the pan and filter.

I figure they upgraded it for a reason and it wasn't because it looks pretty. I did mine around 100k miles, good excuse to drop the pan and check the magnet. Re-used the old seal with no issues, just stuck the new filter in and bolted the new pan on same as if I was putting the old stuff back in.

One thing to be sure of is to get the oil filter neck seal out of the bore.
They can and do come off the filter and stay behind. Use a plastic tool
to hook it and remove. That bore is soft aluminum and can score with
out much effort and leave you with a suction leak and pull air into the
system. That would make for an unhappy transmission.

How often should you change that filter?

60k per the 6.4L trans fluid change guide.

I assume fluid change is analogous with a filter change since it's only got the one, the maintenance guide I pulled for an '09 says trans fluid change at 60k, but IIRC off the top of my head I'm remembering the filter changes at the same interval.

Correct! And just to show us how stout these transmissions are: the TP filter only gets to filter 10% of the oil IF the thermostat is open and sending fluid to the front cooler (170 degrees?).

Here's a thread I did back when I swapped mine out, there's some BS in the middle pages, but still mostly ok stuff:
