Please help! 97 ranger
He is working on a 97 ranger. He put another engine in it. And it won't start it tries to. But won't
The one time he had it running he turned a switch off that's under the dash. Buy it didn't stay running long enough for him to flip it back on. He says it's flooding but can't figure out why. So I'm on here asking for help. I'm tired of seeing him frustrated with it. So if you could please help I'd greatly appreciate it.
Btw I no know terminology. Or about engine's but trying to learn.
I'll see if I can get things started. The only switch from the factory under the dash for us to mess with is the inertia switch, that trips in an accident to turn the fuel pump off to help prevent fires. It's located in the passenger side foot well area. Is this the area the switch was in, or has someone wired in a switch that's controlling something else, if so what is it controlling?
If he has, or can come by a fuel pressure gauge, have him check fuel pressure & post up the Number.
Same for a scan tool, or code reader that we use to query the computer, as if the computer has stored any trouble code clues for things that aren't operating normally, they can help us focus a trouble shoot, so post up All trouble code Numbers found.
Does this vehicle have the factory PATS anti-theft system that blinks a red theft light in the instrument cluster?
It might also be helpful to know the cab body style, engine & transmission the vehicle Had & why the engine was replaced & is it the Same type engine the vehicle was shipped with from the factory?
Was this a flex fuel vehicle from the factory?
Some beginning thoughts for things that might be helpful for the forum to know in getting our minds wrapped around & focused on your problem.
Can your husband type? While it's real nice, very nice, for you to help there is definitely an additional layer of difficulty by going through information second hand. Diagnostics over the internet is very tough sometimes even when talking to that person directly.
