What is the best off-road tire that will mainly be used on road. I currently have BF Goodwrench AT KOs, and werent completely satisfied with them. What is the best for on and off road usage that will last 60k-75k at least?
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it's "BFGoodRICH", not "wrench". Nothing personal, but I hear a lot of people say it and it drives me insane - same thing with calling "Best Buy" "Best Buys" instead.
Judging from your needs, I'd recommend the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO. All-around amazing tire.
You might have better luck posting in the "suspension, tires & wheels" forum as well - those guys have a lot of combined experience with just about every make and model of tire available. Great source of info!
First of all, you aren't going to find an A/T tire that will last 70K.
I've owned all kinds of tires...Pirelli A/Ts, Goodyear, BFGs, Firestone, etc. And by far, the best tires I have ever owned were the BFG A/T KOs. Smooth ride, good traction, great looking, long lasting. They are expensive though.
I would highly recommend the Cooper Discoverer S/T. They are a little more aggressive than the Bfg's but still have good road manners and better wear than an M/T.
you won't get anywhere near 70K out of them but for the best offroad/on road tire try the Goodyear MTR. Amazing offroad traction and it has really good on road manners as well. Only downfall is the soft tread wears quite fast.
I have a set of Remington Wide Brute's on my GMC and I have gotten alot of use otu of them. Only "problem" I have with them is that the "side lugs" Don't look mean enough for me. lol But its all looks. They perform very well and I have had great luck with them. I paid 112 a piece for a 285/75/R16 and I have had them for 2 years and they look really good still. Prob 1/2 to 3/4 tread left and I drive a bunch.
And they have been smoked quite a few times.
By far the longest lasting set of AT tires that I have had was a set of BF Goodrich Long Trail AT's. The went about 50k for me with a few good tire smoking burn outs thrown in. However their off road performance left much to be desired. If you are used to the traction provided by BFG AT/KO's then you will be very disapointed in these tires. The tred is just to hard and the patteren in not aggressive enough to work well in a low traction off road situation.
I have had ok luck w/ the BF goodrich, but in the last 4 or 5 years Ive seen them not last NEAR as long as they used to.
But those are good tires....
The Cooper Discorvers are nice also
I have Goodyear Trail Mark D/T's on my ford and they are a good offraod tire. They grab very well, but on the highway they make that awesome tire noise. I love it. Doesn't bother me at all. I don't know how long they will last, but I think about a couple years max. They aren't very expensive either.
your not going to find an offroad type tire thats going to last long for your truck. its too damn heavy. after you look at the 350 plus diesel and ranchhand replacement bumpers your looking at alot of weight there. your just going to have to suck it up and replace your tires more than you would with a half ton truck.
i agree with RBrendel the motor and front end on your 1 ton is almost the same weight as a small half ton. if you need long life and decent traction try out some heavy truck tires. i haved used a few different types of michelins but like the savage xl's the best
Anyone know anything about BFGoodrich M/Ts? price and preformance compared to the BFGoodrich A/T KOs (for 35s, 36s and 37s)? I might just end up sticking with the KOs, they're ok, but they ain't Super Swampers. I guess I will be buying tires more often than normal. Also, whats the difference in preformance between 35s, 26s, and 37s, besides the height gain between them.
Raw, I've got a friend who Runs 35's, 36's and 37's on his rig. It may just be me but ya can't really tell the tire diffirence between the 3 by size nor extra clearnce. I think they really just for added $$ and more to say I run this size tire. If you do make that step make it worth while and go to 38's. if You check around most 38's will run about the same price as the 36's and 37's. I can't in no way judge my 35's to any of his 3 sizes. I run a 35" bogger and his A/T's, TSL's and M/T's can't keep up with them.
As far as best Tire life I've got from any A/T's or M/T's was Wideclimers. As far as the Goodyear MTR's what type of stuff do you gert in offroad? Where I live ya find Blackgumbo mud they ain't worth a flip for traction in it. A/T's seem more of a full blown mud tire then they do here.
