(Backfiring Help) 1978 Ford F150 5.0l *Pictures*

Found this intact barn find a few days ago. Put a new battery in and it started up ( have to keep giving it a tad bit gas until it warmed up) but if I put it in Drive or in gear it would die. The accelerator pump was leaking a bit and carb was in need of a rebuild after sitting in the field for 10-15 years.

Check out the wasp nests on the carb.

I tore down the Carb and rebuilt it with a 2150 kit. Washers are in place correct gaskets for the spacer and carb. Triple checked everything and took my time.

Accelerator pump squirts fuel as it should
Primary and Secondary jets look good
No vacuum leaks
linkage is all good to go

Doesn't idle and now backfires. Bad timing? I even tore the carb down again after this and still the same outcome.

Checked the firing order and its 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 ?

Sounds like it could be too lean+retarded timing.

I'm with Dewd on this one, and would have to check out the timing really well. May be time to a timing gear and chain.
