High Idle Mod - Intermittently Blowing Fuse

I completed the high idle mod on my '05 Excursion 6.0 a few months ago. The 12V source is the blue/white wire that up/right of the ODBII connector outlined in the high-idle mod how-to. For some reason, every couple of weeks, the 10-amp mini fuse at #29 will blow. It will work well for several weeks - then randomly pop the fuse about once a month.

Anyone else experienced and solved this? Not sure if maybe I should swap out the switch I'm using to toggle the high idle, or maybe if an increase in the fuse amperage is required...or something else?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Does your switch have a light when on? and I assume you have Hi-Idle "OFF" most of the time?

Maybe you have a loose connection in the wire/switch you added that intermittently makes contact (on a bump?). Did you add a low-amp fuse (i've got a .25 A on shelf with my parts to add when I get time for this MOD) to the wire to your PCM? it could be real expensive to send 10+ AMPs by accident into your PCM via this mod.

Isn't the fuel bowl heater and possibly a 12v power port on that same fuse?

What gauge wire is the marked one your using? It should be only a 16 gauge wire. Quick way to measure is a wire cutter with gauges on it. Do not increase the amperage of a fudges in the box. As abov, recheck for loose wires.

The switch does have a blue LED light built into it...but the light hasn't worked since the first time I popped the fuse. And yep, I do have the high idle mod "off" most of the time...I just use it to warm up the truck faster in the mornings before driving.

I didn't add a low-amp fuse to the wire to the PCM. I'm not the greatest with electrical - I just followed the how-to outlined here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-idle-mod.html

When the temps here cool down this week, I'll crawl back under and see if I can find any loose connections.

I'll have to double check, but I believe my 12v switched power source is a 16 gauge wire. It was an unused (just an open-ended wire that was capped off) white/blue wire that was back and to the right of the OBDII connector.

I have everything wired to a switch I picked up at Autozone (it is lighted and looks just like the switches pictured in will's how-to thread I linked above). I have a ground wire running from a bolt on the fuse box to the "Earth/Ground" pin on the switch, I have the PCM wire running to the "Load" pin on the switch, and I have the 12v power source running to the "Supply" pin on the switch.

Thanks for the help.
