Help with wiper for 64 ford 500

So have two questions here. First is regarding the windshield wiper. I have one but it doesn't work right now. Trying to figure out how to fix or repair the switch without buying another one as they seem fairly simplistic. what goes wrong with the switches and does anyone have some pictures of how the inside of one should look?
If it comes down to buying one where do I even get one? it's the single speed switch c3tb-17a553-g1.
Also is there a way to test the motor to verify if the motor might be the problem?

Second what is a ford 500? I see info on the f100,250, and 350 but can't seem to find anything about what a ford 500 truck is.

Thank you.

txking Welcome to :-X and the Slicks Forum.

The numbers start out with the 100 and go up. Each truck number it becomes more heavy duty. Your 500 is a 6 wheel truck, beds could vary, many with a flat bed 16-20 long. Someone more versed than me might splain it more better.

You can remove the wiper motor or bring a known hot wire to it to see if it turns. I had one out and placed it on the battery grounding it to the neg post and touching the pos where the wire connects and watched it turn.

That would be where I would start. It is my belief that they cab be swapped very easily. I had a 76 2 speed motor in my 66. I had to retain the original arm for proper parking.

Good luck with your hunt.

I'm assuming to swap to a 2 speed or what not requires both the switch and the motor? anything else to get it to swap? might you be able to use the original motor with a 2 speed switch?

Also does anyone by chance have a anything showing the switch being taken apart? I'm almost wondering if there are parts missing as it just doesn't look right in there.

It's been a while, but you might need the two spd motor and switch, while retaining the original motor arm. You likely can use a pickup motor in the larger truck.

I swapped from single to two speed. I changed everything, including the arms. If you search extensively you will find a partsbook page posted by ND which lists and describes the various lengths and applications of the arms. If you make the swap, it is critical that you realize left and right may be different lengths and that they aren't labelled...

Eric, I am talking about the arm on the motor. When I did my swap about 18 years ago the donor arm parked the blades in a different place. I had to use the original to park the blades correctly.

John, I think I'm not describing the "arms" correctly. There is the short crank arm you mention and also the links from that arm to the wiper pivots. I agree that swapping an entire system gives a better result.

The switches used are unique to single or 2 speed. So if you have a 2 speed wiper you need the 2 speed switch. I can't confirm for the later models, but the 61-66 ones are like this. I tried to add the later model switch with the integrated squirter to the old motor but the way the switch selects the 2 speeds is different and so it wouldn't work.

My parts book is a bit different to ND's and specifies a different arm for each side (66 only) prior to 66 they are the same part number. Whilst my truck is RHD, ALL the parts for the wipers are EXACTLY the same except for the bracket that holds it on the firewall. Even with the shorter arm on my drivers side, the drivers wiper still whacks the custom cab windshield moulding a little.

If the wiper blades are hitting the trim molding at the bottom of the windshield then it sounds like the wiper arms just need to be pivoted slightly on the shaft so they don't rotate that direction quite as far. A person has to remove the wiper arm on the outside of the truck, then "Clock it" on the shaft a tooth or two or whatever is needed so the blade is further away from the trim, then reattach the arm. There are a good number of teeth on the wiper shaft so you can make small adjustments at a time.

Just a thought. Might not be the problem you are describing but I took a shot at it, anyway.
